Learning training and work support
James's story - Aldingbourne Trust (Work Aid)
The Aldingbourne Trust tells us how James
was supported with his voluntary work by Work
Aid
James was referred by his tutor at Northbrook College. He was
seeking voluntary work after finishing college.
James completed a Health and Safety course on the
computer and received a certificate of competence. He had said that
he would like to proceed to voluntary work within an office
environment, and we found a suitable placement for him as
an administration support assistant at Mencap. James attended an
interview and was offered the position.
James has been working at Mencap for one day a week now. His
duties include archiving old files, and photocopying and updating
information on a database. He's pleased that he is gaining
experience while at the same time progressing towards paid
employment.
James has also learnt to travel independently by bus between his
home and voluntary work placement. He has now been
referred to Breakaway for further employment support. Without the
Steps To Work partnership it is unlikely that James would have been
able to progress towards work after leaving college.
